volunteer opportunities in the Greater Delaware Valley area. Site visitors can find their ideal volunteer opportunity with just the click of the mouse. This "virtual volunteer center" helps community-based organizations recruit volunteers and offers tracking and reporting features to support corporate volunteer programs.
Penn State Urban Gardening Program
Since 1977, Penn State's Urban Gardening Program has worked with Philadelphians to establish and maintain community food gardens through technical assistance and educational support. The program helps develop community gardens on vacant lots, introduces youth to urban gardening, provides advice to backyard gardeners and pioneers innovative garden techniques in the city environment.

The Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee, a part of the Streets Department's Sanitation Division, began 53 years ago as a "Clean-Up, Paint-Up, Fix-Up" initiative. Today it is an urban environmental partnership between government and 6500 Block Captains and their organized blocks.
